What Is DreamSculpt (Ortho-K)?

DreamSculpt (Orthokeratology) is a safe, non-invasive treatment involving specialized gas-permeable lenses worn overnight. These lenses gently reshape the cornea, allowing clear daytime vision and slowing myopia progression. Studies indicate a significant reduction in axial elongation, helping to safeguard your child's eyesight. We use advanced corneal topography to design these lenses precisely to each patient’s eye.

Corneal Topography

How DreamSculpt Works

DreamSculpt retainers create a controlled treatment zone, reshaping the cornea to correct vision temporarily. The fluorescein pattern confirms a perfect lens fit, providing maximum comfort and effectiveness. Patients typically notice improved vision within days. Corneal topography scans guide customization for optimal results.

The DreamSculpt procedure is performed with the use of a medical instrument called a corneal topographer. The topographer measures the shape of your cornea, enabling Reimbold Eye Group to create a computerized simulation of the DreamSculpt Retainer. Corneal topography is used at each appointment to map the shape of the eye, allowing the measurement of the change in optical power of the cornea.

At your initial appointment, your eye care provider will take a range of measurements from each eye. This data is imported into simulation software, then used to design your DreamSculpt Ortho-K retainer.

Reimbold Eye Group customizes each lens to your prescription and individual eye shape to micron accuracy without the need for time-consuming trial fitting prior to ordering. This simulation process means more complex prescriptions can be treated, providing the greatest chance of success with fewer fitting appointments and lens changes. FDA Approval: Overnight Ortho-K is FDA approved for the temporary reduction of myopia. Several designs are FDA-approved up to 6.00D myopia and 1.75D astigmatism.

DreamSculpt Advantages:

  • overall lens diameter for different sized corneas.
  • optic (treatment) zone curvature & diameter to correct higher refractive errors.
  • Decentered optic (treatment) zone to counteract lens decentration.
  • reverse (“pull”) zone curvature for faster treatment.
  • slope between treatment & reverse zones for varying myopic defocus.
  • center & edge thickness to prevent warping & improve comfort.

All Procedures Carry Potential Risks

Possible Risks

Myopia Control is elective. While most patients don’t experience complications, possible risks include:

  • Lens Awareness (often subsides within weeks)
  • Blurriness (improvement might not be 100% initially)
  • Over-/Under-Correction (may require lens re-design)
  • Halos, glare, streaks (if lens is off-center or pupils are large)
  • Epithelial Abrasions (mild if debris is trapped)
  • Infections (proper hygiene is crucial)

Our Definition of a “Successful Ortho-K Result”

We define success as: “All-day visual acuity without lenses, staying within two lines of best-corrected acuity, with minimal/no corneal or eyelid issues.”

We aim to continually improve the fit until this standard is met. DreamSculpt is about comfort, eye health, and consistent clarity.

Successful Fit Example

Follow-Up Visits

After lens training, you’ll have a 1-week check. Lens awareness may last 2–3 days; vision is often clear by week 1. Best results require 6–8 hours of nightly wear.

Yearly DreamSculpt Evaluations

Myopia Control continues until eye growth stops (~age 23–25). We track progression to ensure the best outcome. Ortho-K can reduce progression by 50–100%. New retainers and evaluation are reqired anually to continue the program.

Yearly Evaluations

Yearly retainer Replacements

Lens Replacements

Gas permeable DreamSculpt retainers can warp and develop scratches or deposits over time. the deposits can fill in the reverse curve and dectease the Myopia control over a years time. After ~1 year, we require replacement to maintain clarity, Myopia control & eye health.

Current Contact Lens Wearers

For accurate topography, discontinue lens wear before initial fitting:

  • Soft spherical (daily): 1 day
  • Soft spherical (extended): 2 days
  • Soft toric/bifocal: 2 days
  • Rigid gas permeable: 3–4 weeks
  • Ortho-K lenses: 1 month
